Hormones have been the punchline for many a joke about women. But the truth is the female body is a complex creation.

Our bodies go through so many stages as we age and mature and for most women we go along for the ride and hope for the best.

We lose our sex drive, our hair, and our minds and resolve to be the crazy, gray-haired woman with no sex life.

This is not God's best for us. God wants us live to the fullest in every stage and age of our lives. We were create to merely survive life but to thrive in it.

6 Ways To Boost Your Libido

I know it is hard to thrive in some areas when your mind, emotions, and body don't line up, right? You want to feel live and vibrant but you can't even bring yourself to think about sex after kids were yanking on you all day. The tingles are gone and all you know is there's something stained on the front of what use to be your favorite Date Night shirt.

Then, the kids grow and you finally think you can get back in the grove only to discover that your body has changed, sex lost is luster because it isn't comfortable, and you're still never in the mood.

Did you know you can be in control of those tingles, that lovin' feeling?

You can, and there are easy ways to help boost sex drive without pharmaceuticals.

Natural Ways to Boost Libido

#1 Ylang Ylang

Ylang ylang is an essential oil created through distillation of the ylang ylang tree flowers. It helps fight the failure to respond to sexual stimulus or the aversion on the part of a woman to sexual intercourse. Diffusing this oil a few times a day or create a hormone balancing roll on and apply it throughout the day.

*Never use an essential oil topically without diluting it with a carrier oil like sweet almond, fractonated coconut oil, or even olive oil.

#2 Maca Root

Research shows this adaptogenic herb helps increase sexual desire and improve sexual function in women. It is a root grown in Peru. There are several different kinds of maca available. You can read more about maca and the different types in this post.

I add my favorite maca to my smoothies or make this hormone helping hot cocoa.

#3 Ashwagandha

Also known as Indian Ginseng, Ashwagandha is another adaptogenic herb used in Ayurvedic medicine. Ashwagandha is known for increasing fertility and energy levels,  balancing hormones during menopause, and improving overall mood.

You can take a capsule supplement, this is my favorite brand, or make a a homemade ashwagandha tincture.

#4 Get Your Head in the Game

Can I give you secret?

The majority of a woman's sex drive is not in her genitalia – it is in her mind. That's why when you're on the couch cursing Pinterest and he's watching football or you've spent the day wiping boogers and watching Caillou you don't “feel” like you're in the mood.

You need to think sex.

I heard a woman say once, that in her younger years she would literally write TS on her calendar to remind herself to think about sex.

Get yourself in the mood by thinking about a sexual encounter with your spouse. Shave your legs, put fresh sheets on the bed. Get your head in the game! Mentally prepare for a romp knowing that after bedtime prayers and books with the kiddos you'll be enjoying some time with The Hubs.

#5 Understand God's View On Sex

When we have a healthy, biblical view of God's opinion on sex it can go a long way to boost our own libido.

I know, it might sound weird to put God and sex in the same sentence but the creator of the universe also created sexual intercourse, hormones, sex drive, and yes, orgasm.

The problem with our view on sex is that we've let the world take over our perception of sex and that it is lustful, dirty, and wrong to think about sex, enjoy sex and even orgasm.

We've been robbed of one of the greatest gifts God has given us. It's time to take it back.

#6 Learn Practical Ways to Get In The Mood

The Problem No One Talks About

Sadly, many women are still living with the emotional pain of past sexual traumas, or bad decisions they made in their younger years that stifle feelings of intimacy and nurture those of shame, guilt, and condemnation. The past haunts your every thought of a rendezvous with your spouse.

If this is you, I want you to know there is hope.  This was me many years ago – trapped in the sins of my past. No matter if it was abuse or willful acts of your own, your God is bigger than your past. I encourage you to read Restoring the Lost Petal and learn how you can top living in your past.
